<p style="text-align: left; ">How could I forget?!? Besides the kids rocking out on their robots, one of the best parts of the day was the unveiling of the wonderful cupcakes that <a title="Purveyors of fine baked goods. And happiness." href="http://www.lusciouslayers.com/" target="_blank">Luscious Layers</a> provided to commemorate our first workshop. The kids were so pleased with the post-robot treats! There were three awesome flavors: Chocolate (white frosting), Orange (yellow frosting) and Strawberry (green frosting). We HIGHLY recommend the orange flavored cupcake, they were quite dee-lish. <span id="more-591"></span></p>

<p style="text-align: left; ">Thanks for helping to make our first workshop a triumphant (and tasty) success, Ashley Galliart of Luscious Layers! The kids and their parents flipped over your cakes, and we did too!</p>

<p style="text-align: left;">In celebration of our first workshops, Don commissioned the fine chef/artists of  Chicago&#8217;s best specialty bakery, <a title="Not just the best, THE best." href="http://www.lusciouslayers.com/" target="_blank">Luscious Layers</a>, to create for our special guests a masterpiece of B4T cupcakes! They will probably look something like those pictures above, but with our signature robots on them. Nom nom nom! By the way, how do we know that they are the best? Just look at this cake that Don had Luscious Layers make for my birthday this year!<span id="more-570"></span></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://sslsites.de/forgeworlds.de/images/120013.gif" target="_blank"><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-572 postimg" title="This is a cake. <p style="text-align: left;">This is a Necron Monolith, from Warhammer 40K. Click the image of the cake above to see what the real thing looks like. See any major difference? Thought not. If Luscious Layers can do that to a single cake, just imagine what they can do to a dozen cupcakes.</p>

<p style="text-align: left;">Ok, ok, so this is not exactly site related, but I celebrated my 26th birthday this past weekend and I wanted to show off this awesome gift bag my girl Jess gave me my present in. Isn&#8217;t it the best? Well, I got some pretty fun stuff, including this:<span id="more-494"></span></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><img class="size-full wp-image-497 postimg aligncenter" title="This isn't a poor photo, it just looks like that!" src="http://www.bots4tots.org/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/cover.jpg" alt="This isn't a poor photo, it just looks like that!" width="324" height="576" /><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-498 postimg" title="My Great Grandmother was born in the year that this was published!" src="http://www.bots4tots.org/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/1916.jpg" alt="My Great Grandmother was born in the year that this was published!" width="562" height="116" /></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">Check it out! A Webster&#8217;s Dictionary circa 1916 from my dear Mom. She&#8217;s had this sucker ever since I can remember, and I always coveted it. She gave it to me for my birthday this year (what an honor!), and considering our last blog post, I was curious to see if there was indeed no entry for the word &#8220;robot&#8221;. Sure enough&#8230;</p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-499 postimg" title="Evidentally, there's no such thing." src="http://www.bots4tots.org/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/robot.jpg" alt="robot" width="540" height="531" />It&#8217;s rather hard to believe! Once upon a time, there was officially no word in the English language to desrcibe an idea that may or may not have been previously used. Pre-industrial revolution, I think that the closest thing to a robot was a golem type monster, something that we in our modern time would place in the realm of fantasy rather than science fiction.  I think the most fascinating thing about opening up this dictionary and not being able to find the word &#8220;robot&#8221;, this wholly tangible revelation, is the way it has made me consider <a title="&quot;Science Fiction is the improbable made possible.&quot; Serling" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Science-fiction#History" target="_blank">Science Fiction</a>; that science, even approaching it as we think of the term today, has not been a part of the collective consciousness for all of man&#8217;s history. You may be saying something along the lines of &#8220;Well, duh&#8230;&#8221;, but I honestly feel that it is something we often take for granted in our new-fangled culture. </p>
<p style="text-align: left;">Oh, oh, and in that same vein, there&#8217;s also this:</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-500 postimg" title="I believe that in referencing &quot;one&quot; here, Webster's is referring to a person. The definition could be reinterpreted to fit advances in computing, but I personally like the idea of my computer as a &quot;one&quot; rather than an &quot;it&quot;." src="http://www.bots4tots.org/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/computer.jpg" alt="I believe that in referencing &quot;one&quot; here, Webster's is referring to a person. The definition could be reinterpreted to fit advances in computing, but I personally like the idea of my computer as a &quot;one&quot; rather than an &quot;it&quot;." width="533" height="229" /></p>
