Robot Does Your Science Homework!

Ok, maybe not YOUR science homework...
April 4th, 2009 - Don

Meet Adam. He’s a robot in the labs at Aberystwyth University in the UK. He does science experiments. Like, a LOT of science experiments.

Earlier this week, Adam made history by being the very first robot in history to make a scientific discovery without human help for the first in history, ever.

You can read more about Adam here.

What does that mean for B4T? Not much on the surface, but closer inspection of this news story may bring into relief the human element of this event.

You see, Adam was made by humans. Every robot is, right? Well, right now – at least – that is the case. Where did those humans learn to make robots? Why did those humans choose robotics rather than law or medicine or rock stardom or film production as a career? What inspired them?

A more potent question, I think, is this one:

Where would we be if those people weren’t initially inspired to build robotics?

Furthermore, where would we be right now if more people had the opportunity and inspiration?

In all honesty, I give it a 50/50 shot between utopia and Skynet at this point, but with more human hands directing the future of robotics, maybe we can shift those odds!

You can help. Donate. Do it before they send cyborgs back through time to tell you how you should have.
